Hi
ReplyDeleteGood to see you are enjoying the wanderful singletrack that took years of effort to make happen. No one in the area has tried to stop anyone from riding their bikes on them. Almost everyone has understood the reasoning behind no promotion of the trail systems. The equation is very very simple. More promotion = more problems. I could go on and on, but I will just say some roads are gravel and some roads are paved. At Hardwood Hills when traffic increases there is more money to help with the problems that more users create. When a volunteer system sees more increase in traffic, What should happen??? More volunteering??? I feel people should respect what they have found by simply enjoying it, not try to sell advertizing from it. The concept is simple. No one is trying to stop people from enjoying what is there, just trying to stop erosion of what we have. Please do not try to make out our view as being anything other then noble. If someone has some thoughts on how to promote = more users, without trail degradation, please speak up. The trails were not designed for racing or for the crowds like Hardwood's were. Perhaps the people who want to shout from the hilltops ( web) could highlight trail repairs/ armouring/ reroutes to the world.

Tom,
ReplyDeletePlease understand that the CTS bike club wants to ensure the longevity of all trails. We will do everything in our power to make sure that the blood sweat and tears that went into creating such an amazing trail system never goes to waste. We are just a group of riders the gets together to have a good time, we will never promote how to get to these trails. Please let us know if there is work to be done. We would love to organize a group to go out and help you.
Happy Trails

Dear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is we are trying to promote friendly riding and a social gathering among our group, the majority of us ride only once per week and you could hardly call it “tearing up the forest”. We appreciate your concerns and to adjust our motions we will do the following. We will continue to promote our ride locations internally to our group so that everyone may meet. But to the external world, we will not emphasize nor detail the locations of our forest rides. Last week we updated our website to remove all references to the ride locations. That change in action should address your concerns based on what you wrote. With regards to the advertising… We don’t get advertising dollars, we get a couple of free cases of beer for our end of year wind-up; feel free to join our rides and you too can enjoy a free beverage. The Google PPC found on our website, (roughly $20 annually) pays for trinket awards that we hand out at the end of the year and a box of hamburgers… that is all. As for volunteering and trail support, I will mention it to the group. The guys have supported trails upkeep in the past and are currently doing so now to extend new trails which you are free to ride anytime. I will mention it again and try to plan an outing to come out to help you. I hope the above adjustments will address your concerns, otherwise feel free to post again and come out for one of our rides, you will quickly learn where our heart is.
CTS Public relations the bottom line is that I like your friendly social you-tube videos and to my knowledge no one has ever called them tearing up the forest. I do have a little issue with typing in
ReplyDeleteC@%*#&^D MTB on you-tube and having a gorilla advertizing colour brochure for the place come up. Will there be more to come from others, yes. Will it help to accelerate change and reshape the place, yes. I like the way Chris Robillard's hidden gem techno vid was done, it shows you do understand how to do it.
That is allot of logos for 2 cases of beer and $20
Our area would be given a fine gift if someone would put fourth the effort involved with sweet singletrack at Awenda. The time is right for a pilot project with them and I am sure that Lora @ IMBA could get your group started.
I would also like to tell you that for a few $ your group could visit some fantastic places that would LOVE the publicity. Buckwallow, Santas Village, Hardwood , Albion Hills and Kolapore.
One last thing for now ... the title of this vid should be “Get On IT” because when they are that big your more on then over.

We need to work together, CTS will make the necessary changes. http://www.mtb-c.com/map_pages/copeland_ride_map.htm
ReplyDeleteI agree ...and appreciate your thoughts ... thanks again for the cool vids.

Its great to see an open and candid conversation get resolved. The show of respect and understanding is great to see. People are so hardheaded and "me first" today, that this way of dealing with one another is out dated.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys, examples to us all.
